Meneely (Nebraska) captured both the Freestyle and
Greco Roman national titles at 135 lbs at the 2002
ASICS/Vaughan Junior Nationals. In freestyle wrestling,
Meneely defeated Teyon Ware of Oklahoma 5-4 in the final
match to become champion. In Greco-Roman wrestling,
Meneely won by a technical fall over Casey
Lawson (Utah), in the finals to seal the championship. Meneely was named Outstanding Wrestler
of the Greco-Roman tournament as he pinned or tech-falled each
opponent in the first period. He did not surrender a
point in the entire Greco-Roman tournament and he did not
suffer a loss in either style. (Further details can be found at NWI
Magazine). In other action, Tony Valdez of
Nebraska captured 3rd place at 105 lbs with a pin in his
Junior Greco-Roman medal match. He became an
All-American in both styles by finishing 8th in the
freestyle tournament. Nebraskan Victor Weideman
also earned
also earned All-American honors, finishing 6th in the
Cadet Freestyle Tournament. Brandon Browne
became an All American by finishing 8th at 130 lbs
